10k vs. 14k - WOW

Nice. I am running a 10K, but am waiting for my 12K. If it is not Blue enough, I will be switching to 14K.

Remember that ballasts play a big role in the color the bulb burns. Typically, electronic ballasts burn bluer than a magnetic counterpart.

Larry, what brand were the 10ks? What kind of ballasts are you running?

They are PFO pulse start ballasts. I notice light burns a little more blue than the other and, since you said that about the ballasts, remember one ballast appeared newer and one appeared used when I wired them. I got them "used" from ken along with pendants and the 1 yr old 10ks. I don't know what brand the 10ks were, it doesn't say on them but Ken might chime in with the info.

I may still add a t-5 actinic for "actinic only" lighting.

Hmmm... I have a new SE 14k 250w hammy and a PFO hqi balast just sitting around waiting for me to build a hood for. I wonder what it will look like on that ballast. How long have you burned the new bulbs for? Have you noticed any color shift?

That pic was taken maybe 15min after I'd first turned them on. I was at the meeting last night when they went off, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to check color shift. I also bought a t-5 actinic unit (for 29.99 - 20%)!!!! It looks AWESOME, really bright. Thanks GREG at plano pets!

Thanks Chuck for the compliment. That's a 90 gal all-glass.

Those 14's look great! I went from 2 5500K 175 watt hamiltons to 14k hamiltons last month. Talk about a difference! The 5500's literally resembled the sun. It was the ugliest lighting ive ever seen!
