Remember when I shared part of my trip to Rochester NY earlier this year?

The tank is finally done, with sand, rock and water. I thought you'd get a kick out of the video of aquascaping such a beast.

If you want to get more details about this tank, here's the ongoing thread:

kinda had me concerned there for a moment Marc.. Thought you were going to start another 14 day project... Maybe this time you'll finish in 7

That is really a cool tank and a lot of work and $$$$ can hardly wait to see it once complete with fish and corals. What type of filtering and lights are being planned (I did not read through all the postings)?

Currently, it appears he'll use three Luminarc III reflectors. I don't recall if it will be 250w or 400w bulbs. He plans to have three 35g surge tanks installed in the fishroom.

While you guys keep stating this will be expensive, if you have the time to read the thread you'll be amazed how cheaply he is getting everything done. Each time I suggest something, he shoots it down because he wants to do it for less. Overall, I bet he's spent very little compared to what we sink into our tanks.

None of the sand nor the rock is live. It should be very interesting to see how patient he'll be because stocking a lifeless tank is very tricky.

He should add some pieces of LR just seed the tank to get things started but it still will take about a year or longer for the tank to get close to maturing.

Yeah, I agree. He is adding some, but if you read some of their comments, they seem to feel that buying LR is a scam and that you'll end up with a tank full of horrific hitchhikers. I'm not quite that paranoid. Yet.

The number of hitchhikers and types would heavily depend on where the rock comes from. If out of another tank the risk would be very low from the wild… but that is what makes this hobby interesting.
