10 Gal Nano

I just set up a 10 gallon nano around 2 weeks or so. I have about 10+lbs of sand with 10-15lbs of live rock/base rock. I am having a really bad brown algae problem on the sand as well as on my rock. i was wondering if i should do a water change or maybe syphon the sand. thanks for yalls help.

P.S. this is a question for my friend who just set up his nano and doesnt believe my answer so i told him i would post his question.

Definitely diatoms. These clear up. Once the tank has zero ammonia and nitrtite and lowered nitrate, add some clean up crew to help tidy the tank.
