Bored at work, so I decided to start a nano. Well I should say a super nano  1 gallon to say the least. Here's a picture of it as of 8am this morning. Water was from my 55 gal so there was no "down" time!

Paid TranquilScape alittle visit during lunch for LR and Vincent or was it Peter(???) tried to get me 10lbs LR. Alittle thinking and I figured that was a just a BIT much. I endded up with 2.12 lbs

Any more LR and I would of needed to get rid of all the water! hahaha

I think the LR was a way better investment then having lunch

THANKS TranquilScape!!

haha.. There really aint much water left in there! Maybe i should do a 30 gal sump and skimmer for it!

As for live stock, i'm really not sure yet. I was thinking a coral banded shrimp or something of that nature. Something that wouldn't be to costly and easy to take care of. I was thinking maybe I could throw in a Feather Duster also. So if anyone wants to donate, im willing to accept.

Just testing to see how things go with it.. if it fails, i could always dump everything back in the 55. Let just hope it doesn't come to that.

Then what else would I have to do at work? :D

Thanks for all the suggetions! I'll have to make my way around the LFS this weekend to see what I can come up with. :)

Now for the maintainance side. I plan on doing weekly water changes to it. Maybe 1/4 gallon ea time. Would this be ok? or maybe doing less?

The Nano sits on my desk top, well a cubicle more lik, and it has a reg 40 Watt 48" light about 24" from the tank. From there I made a Blue LED light hosting 4 super brite leds. Would this be ok for the attnic side? Led's read 5000mcd. I do believe that means the wavelength.

You'll want low light corals. A dendrophyllia would be beautiful.

Bigger water changes. 1/4g every 3 days. Top off daily, if not twice daily.

You have a pump for circulation, right?

Here's mine, that has been running 3 months. It is 2g, and I have better lighting. http://www.melevsreef.com/pico.html

thanks for the pictures! They all look GREAT! Is that damsel ok in a 2gallon?

Tanks of this is can be found at Petco and Petland. The tank I actually got was from the Betta section. It reads freshwater only but as long as you wash the salt deposit from the powerfilter magnetic every now and then. You should be ok. I have not run into any problem as of yet. But there already was alittle salt creep on the overhang.

I'm goin to probally wait til the end of this week and do a few more test on water quality before I start to add any livestock.

Coraline Algae on the LR still looks ok so I'm thinking the lights going to be sufficient.

I'll update as there is more to come! :D

Hey i was just wondering what brand that tank was and if you got it at Petco or Petland. I have been thinking about setting up a nano just like it at my work and really like that tank.

Got the tank at Petco. Cost me 24.99 for the tank, powerfilter, and light. Just look for it in the Betta section. There's plenty of different choices to choose from.

Picked up 2 corals for the tank over the weekend from the "Nano Tank" at Fish Paradise.

A small finger leather and some sort of encrusting pink/brown coral. Not sure what the name of it is but if anyones ever been to Fish Paradise, I'm sure they've seen it. I was told that it grows like crazy and judging by the tanks I'm sure it does. It covers their powerheads and the glass of one tank.

Dropped in the finger leather and it seems to be doing fine. It's not fully extended like it was at the store but its buds are extended. Anyone know why?

The encrusting coral did not extend its extensions so I took him home to the 55 where its doing just great.

Any suggestions why this might be?

Now that I think about it, I believe your right! An encrusting gorgonian, Thanks!

Evaporation out of this tank is INSANE!!! Who would of thought??? I have to add about a cup of RO/DI every morning!!

With salinity being hyperactive like this, would any animals survive?

You might not have enough flow for the corals to extend? That takes quite a bit for the corals to "eat".

As for the water evaporating, I'd give the tank time to cycle first, and see if a pattern develops, and some sort of schedule of water additions, before adding livestock.

This is a picture of the leather I have in there.

Its slumped over but its polyps are still extended. Will it make it?

Salinity flops between 1.023(after adding water) to 1.026(the very nest morning)

Other water parameters are good. I do two 1litter water changes a week.

Kitty,

Water has been cycled since I took some from my 55 at home. As for a patern on the water, I think the best thing to do is for me to add RO/DI when I get to work in the mornings and add a little more right before I leave work. HOPEFULLY that will cut down the changes of salinity.

That coral may be fine, but I bet more flow will make it perk up.
